Purpose and ScopeThe bus driver will operate a school‑owned, 40‑passenger bus, transporting students and staff members to off‑campus events and returning them to campus afterward. The driver reports directly to the Athletic Director. Job duties include physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, traveling, lifting items up to 50 pounds, and sitting for extended periods.
Essential Job Functions- Travel with students and staff members to and from off‑campus events in a safe manner.
- Perform physical activities, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, traveling, and sitting for extended periods.
- Obey all traffic laws and enforce all bus regulations and procedures.
- Administer emergency first aid when it is needed.
- Keep the bus and/or other vehicles assigned clean and properly fueled.
- Run the assigned schedule efficiently according to the assigned route/trip.
- Perform a pre‑and post‑trip inspection of all assigned vehicles.
- Maintain the highest degree of driving safety in varied weather and road conditions.
- Use the most current defensive driving techniques.
- Report all incidents/accidents immediately to proper authorities according to department policy and procedure.
- Keep up‑to‑date on all personal certification requirements required for the position.
- Be flexible and perform other duties related to general job functions.
- Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed.
- Follow diocesan policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook.
- Demonstrate personal self‑discipline and adaptability in routine and unexpected situations.
- Maintain discipline while operating the vehicle.
- Show courteous and professional rapport with students and staff.
- Use good judgment in daily encounters. Use verbal and written language correctly.
- Have an appropriate sense of humor.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology.
- Maintain appropriate grooming and dress as stated in the faculty handbook.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
The position will require frequent evening and weekend hours.
The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures developed by the Diocese of Phoenix and Notre Dame Preparatory under the direction of the Chaplain, Principal, Athletic Director, and Director of Finance.
Terms of EmploymentTwelve‑month flexible schedule. The executive committee under the guidance of the Diocese of Phoenix establishes base salaries and stipends. A schedule of mandatory days and extra responsibilities is provided prior to the start of a new school year.
Minimum Qualifications- At least 25 years old.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Arizona CDL Class B with Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brakes endorsement.
- CPR training within 60 days (approximately 2 months) of hire.
- Successful driving record for the past five years.
- Physically able to perform job duties in a safe manner.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Willingness to support Catholic teachings and philosophy.
- Completed Safe Environment Training prior to start date.
- Signed the Diocesan Code of Conduct and have a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
