About this Role
British Solar Renewables is looking for a Quantity Surveyor to take ownership for the subcontractor tender process & construction cost management for a 150MW solar and 60MW BESS project.
The successful candidate will support in the building of construction project budgets, producing variance reports on a timely basis and supporting other teams around the business.
This role is an 18-month Fixed-term Contract based in Scunthorpe 4 days per week. Travel to Shepton Mallet, Somerset once a month for monthly contact day is essential.
What you will be doing- Turn subcontractor tendering into smart commercial decisions, supporting the team to appoint the right partners for each project.
- Assist with project budgets and cost plans, keeping the numbers clear, accurate and useful.
- Give senior stakeholders the weekly cost insight they need to understand progress, risks and opportunities.
- Keep payment processes moving smoothly, from reviewing claims to issuing payment certificates.
- Spot cost pressure early and help project teams make practical decisions before small issues become expensive ones.
- Manage variations with confidence, keeping scope, spend and expectations aligned.
- Get out onto sites to understand progress first-hand and bring practical commercial judgement to live project delivery.
- Build trusted relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams so commercial conversations stay clear and constructive.
- Turn accurate cost data into lessons that improve current reporting and strengthen future project budgeting.
- Experience as a qualified Quantity Surveyor would be an ideal background for this role, especially in commercial construction or renewable/electrical projects.
- Alternatively, commercial project delivery management in construction or similar fields would offer relevant experience.
- Experience with ICP appointment desired, but not essential.
- Confident with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel & MS Project
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Understanding of the commercial construction environment
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
- Good time management skills
- Full UK driving licence
