As a Vocational Manager, a typical day might include:
- Managing performance and oversight for all vocational teaching delivery at our workshop based vocational sites Hebdon Road, Normanby and Berkley Business Centre, understanding the detail, ensuring flexible and coordinated delivery structures are in place and implementing corrective action for at risk areas.
- Lead, coach and manage a team of vocationally qualified professionals, increasing employee engagement and productivity, and developing a best practice team who deliver a positive experience for all those who interact with us and outcomes for their learners everyday.
- Setting and monitoring objectives and targets for your team, including resource planning, budget management, managing efficiency and maximising quality.
- Driving the quality of teaching for Skills Centre PLUS and lead the development of our approach to workshop based vocational programmes that meets the needs of our learners to help them achieve.
- Working closely with the curriculum manager to ensure curriculum is linked, resource planning is controlled and efficient and we are maximising opportunities for learners.
- Leading the development of teaching practice for vocational qualified specialists areas, developing a standardised approach to scheme of works, lesson plans and adherence to awarding bodies standards – ensuring the quality of what we deliver is consistent and of a high standard.
- Ensure a modern, flexible, safe and innovative approach to delivery, sharing this learning and insight across all the team, group and sector to drive us forward and grow.
- Implementing standards and activities to ensure ongoing improvement of our service, leading on health and safety, environment development, asset management and stock control for the skills team.
- Working closely with the group quality and compliance team, owning your area to deliver and record quality interventions, hold compliant paperwork and achieve outcomes.
- Supporting the team. As a senior leader within our Skills Centre PLUS team, you will lead the development of what we do whilst supporting the day-to-day operations across all hubs and be responsible for management decisions as they arise.
- Working as part of the wider education and skills leadership team to ensure we enable high performing teams that deliver results and outcomes for our communities we serve
This role acts as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, and as part of a team delivers on a rota to own safeguarding across education and skills. It has a minimum requirement of delivering teaching a minimum of one day per week. This ensures all levels understand and continue to develop their teaching practice together.
Some of the experience/skills we need to consider you:
- Hold a relevant L3 qualification (ONC or equivalent)
- Have relevant industrial experience for workshop based vocations – such as wet trades, motor vehicle, engineering, construction.
- Educated to degree level or can demonstrate relevant equivalent experience
- Teaching qualification or relevant equivalent qualification with teaching experience – ideally as QTS.
