The vacancy

Are you passionate about animal welfare and inspiring the next generation of animal care professionals? We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Animal Management Technician Instructor to join our Animal Management team. This is an exciting opportunity to combine your practical animal management expertise with student support and instruction. You will play a key role in the day-to-day running of our Animal Management Unit, ensuring high standards of animal care and welfare while supporting students to develop the practical skills, knowledge and confidence needed for successful careers in the animal sector.

Working closely with curriculum staff, you will help deliver engaging learning experiences and contribute to the continued development of the provision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high standards of care and welfare for a range of animals in accordance with current legislation and best practice.
  • Supervise, support and assess students undertaking practical animal management activities.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Animal Management Unit, including husbandry, feeding, accommodation maintenance, enrichment and health monitoring.
  • Support the planning and delivery of practical learning activities alongside teaching staff.
  • Maintain stock levels, order supplies and liaise with external suppliers in line with procurement requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain facilities, equipment and resources, reporting any maintenance issues as required.
  • Support student recruitment activities, including open events, roadshows and promotional activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to promote the Animal Management curriculum and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
Essential Criteria
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Animal Management.
  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
  • Experience working within an animal management environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to motivate and support students.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare, safeguarding and student success.
