The vacancy

Are you passionate about supporting students to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential? We are looking for a Student Disability Adviser to provide dedicated advice and guidance to Higher Education students who declare a disability, helping them access the support available to them throughout their studies.

In this important role, you will act as a key point of contact for prospective and current students, supporting them with Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) applications, coordinating reasonable adjustments, and ensuring they can access the services and support they need to succeed. Working closely with students, academic staff and support services, you will contribute to a positive, inclusive and student-focused environment where every learner is valued and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the named contact for prospective and current Higher Education students who declare a disability.
  • Support students with Disabled Students' Allowance applications, including arranging needs assessments and liaising with support providers.
  • Develop support plans and agree reasonable adjustments with students, sharing information appropriately with relevant staff.
  • Signpost students to internal support services and provide advice on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and data relating to DSA and student support activities.
  • Attend monitoring and planning meetings, complete administrative duties and contribute to service improvement activities.
  • Work collaboratively across college sites to support learners and enhance the student experience.
  • Participate in training, professional development and continuous improvement activities.
Essential Criteria
  • Experience of working with students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
  • Experience of working within an educational environment.
  • Knowledge of the impact of disability within a learning environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Benefits for working for DN Colleges
  • Salary of £26,131 to £27,436 per annum.
  • Permanent role with 35.5 hours per week.
  • 30 days annual leave, plus 8 public holidays and two weeks at Christmas.

Important Things to Note
  • In DN Colleges we call this role Student Disability Adviser but you might know this as Disability Support Adviser, Student Support Adviser, Additional Learning Support Adviser, Higher Education Disability Adviser, Inclusive Learning Adviser.
  • We are not looking for agency support for this role.

  • Working hours may occasionally fall between 8.00am and 9.00pm to meet service requirements.
