Position: FIXED-TERM Lecturer in hairdressing

The vacancy

Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation of hairdressing professionals? DN Colleges is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic FIXED-TERM Lecturer Hairdressing to join our Hair and Beauty department.

This role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality teaching and learning across Hairdressing and Barbering programmes while supporting students to achieve their full potential. As well as teaching and assessing learners, you will act as a course tutor, providing pastoral support and guidance to a designated student caseload. You will play an important role in creating an inclusive, supportive and engaging learning environment where students can develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for success.

Working closely with colleagues across the curriculum area, you will contribute to curriculum development, quality improvement activities, student recruitment events and the continued success of the department.

Actual Salary for 29 hours: £27,600.64 £ 34,935.60

The role is primarily office-based, with an expected working pattern of four days per week, Tuesday to Friday. There may also be a requirement to work one late evening each week. We are open to discussing alternative working arrangements with the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and assessment across Hairdressing and Barbering programmes.
  • Act as a course tutor and provide pastoral support to a caseload of full-time and/or part-time students.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, innovative and inclusive learning activities using a variety of teaching methods and technologies.
  • Monitor student attendance, behaviour, progress and achievement, taking appropriate action where required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records including assessments, progress tracking, eILPs and registers.
  • Embed English, maths, equality and diversity, and British Values within teaching and learning activities.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support student recruitment through activities such as open days, information events and promotional activities.
  • Develop and maintain professional links with industry to ensure curriculum relevance and quality.
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum, student support and management teams to enhance the student experience.
Essential Criteria
  • Experience and expertise in Hairdressing and Barbering with the ability to deliver high-quality teaching and assessment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to support and motivate learners.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and monitor student progress effectively.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Level 5 Teaching Qualification or willingness to work towards .
  • Level 2 English and Maths

  • In DN Colleges we call this role Lecturer Hairdressing but you might know this as Hairdressing Lecturer, Hair and Beauty Lecturer, Hairdressing Tutor, Barbering Lecturer or Vocational Hairdressing Teacher.
  • This is a fixed-term position.
  • The role is within the Hair and Beauty department and reports to the Group Curriculum Lead Hair and Beauty.
  • The post includes teaching, assessment, course tutor responsibilities and student pastoral support.
  • Participation in open days, admissions events and other promotional activities may require occasional evening or weekend working.
  • Flexibility in working arrangements may be considered in line with business needs.
  • This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
