We are looking for an experienced and motivated Pre-Assessment Nurse to join our specialist elective surgical team.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality pre-operative assessment and preparation for patients undergoing elective orthopaedic and spinal procedures.

Working closely with the Clinical Lead Pre-Assessment, surgeons, anaesthetic teams, nursing colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will support safe patient selection, optimisation and preparation before surgery.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a new specialist surgical service and contribute to developing excellent standards of pre-operative care.

• Undertake comprehensive pre-operative assessments for patients undergoing elective surgery.
• Review medical history, medications, allergies and previous anaesthetic history.
• Identify potential risks and escalates concerns appropriately.
• Support patient optimisation before surgery.
• Ensure appropriate investigations are completed, including:
  Blood tests; ECGs;
  Screening investigations where required.
• Complete pre-operative documentation accurately and efficiently.
• Provide patients with information and education regarding their surgical pathway.
• Support patients undergoing:
  Total hip replacement;
  Total knee replacement;
  Revision arthroplasty where clinically appropriate;
  Spinal procedures including ACDF, decompression and fusion surgery.
• Complete relevant risk assessments including: VTE assessment;
  Falls risk assessment;
  Infection risk assessment.
• Promote patient safety and ensure readiness for admission and surgery.
• Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement activities.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.

The One Health Group PLC Elective Surgery Hub is a specialist purpose-built elective surgical facility providing high-quality care for patients undergoing major orthopaedic and spinal procedures.

Our service includes:

• One modern operating theatre.
• Three-bay recovery unit.
• Twelve inpatient bedrooms.
• Dedicated pre-assessment and outpatient facilities.

We specialise in elective surgery including:

• Total hip and knee replacement.
• Revision arthroplasty
• Spinal procedures including:
  Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF), Cervical/Lumbar decompression, Lumbar discectomy, Spinal fusions

You will be a Registered Nurse who is passionate about delivering excellent patient care and supporting patients through their elective surgical journey.

You will have:

• Current NMC registration.
• Experience working within an acute surgical environment.
• Experience in pre-operative assessment or surgical nursing.
• Experience caring for patients undergoing major orthopaedic surgery including:
  Total hip replacement;
  Total knee replacement;
  Revision arthroplasty where clinically appropriate.
• Experience or knowledge of spinal surgery including:
  Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF);
  Cervical decompression;
  Lumbar decompression;
  Lumbar discectomy;
  Spinal fusion procedures.
