Salary: £55,000-£60,000

As Safety & Compliance Manager, you will provide visible leadership across a complex operational environment, working closely with senior leaders to embed high standards, improve governance and drive continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact by shaping safety culture, ensuring compliance and supporting operational excellence.

The Opportunity
  • Lead, develop and support a team of Health & Safety Facilitators to deliver effective compliance and assurance activities.
  • Set clear safety standards and ensure they are consistently understood and applied across all operational areas.
  • Provide visible leadership that promotes accountability, ownership and a positive safety culture.
  • Manage audits, inspections and assurance programmes to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with legal and internal standards.
  • Use performance data and insights to identify trends, prioritise risk‑based improvements and strengthen the management of critical risks.
About You
  • Significant Health, Safety and Environmental management experience, ideally within heavy industry or a high‑risk operational environment (e.g., quarrying, aggregates, power, cement, chemical, waste, refineries, steel, recycling, ports, fertiliser, foundries).
  • NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum qualification.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent professional qualification is desirable.
  • Experience leading audits and applying compliance frameworks with confidence.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and drive meaningful improvements.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at every level.
  • Proven leadership and coaching capability, enabling others to perform at their best.
  • A pragmatic, resilient approach with the confidence to challenge appropriately while building positive working relationships.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to work confidently with business systems and reporting tools.
