Director of Care
The RPN plays a pivotal role in enriching the lives of residents by supporting the LTC home in the administration of medications, treatments, and assessments. This position actively participates in all multidisciplinary meetings to ensure excellence in resident care and uphold the quality of nursing practice in accordance with:
College of Nurses of Ontario Standards, Long‑Term Care Standards, and Southbridge Care Homes Standards.
- Ensure resident care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders and administrative policies; observe, report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents, and initiate remedial health measures where appropriate.
- Assess residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate resident care plans. Monitor residents’ health, note changes in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; process and implement physician orders.
- Organize and direct functions and activities related to provision of care to residents including restorative care and palliative care as required. Interpret and implement established policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the work of nursing and personal care staff assigned to the unit. Orient and train current personnel and may participate in in‑service education. Monitor performance and conduct performance appraisals and refer problems to the Director of Care.
- Appropriate current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario.
- Current First Aid and BLS Certificate.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as knowledge in Infection Control Practices.
- Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of start date.
- Completion of a 2‑Step TB Skin test within the last 12 months of start date.
