Patient Access Representative (PAS Rep)
The Patient Access Representative (PAS Rep) is a fully cross‑functional member of the Patient Access Services (PAS) career path at Unity Health. The PAS Rep performs all patient access services functions including outpatient and inpatient registration, cash‑handling, insurance verification, and financial capture. The PAS Rep provides excellent patient‑focused customer service and maximizes patient flow.
Key Responsibilities- Register patients for inpatient, observation, and outpatient services, including emergency department registration.
- Verify insurance coverage and capture financial requirements.
- Cashier for up‑front collections, lone‑line payments, and hospital cashiering functions.
- Assist users and patients by providing general information and addressing questions.
- Communicate effectively with all service delivery areas to optimize patient flow.
- Maintain accurate and compliant patient records on the PAS system.
- High School diploma or equivalent; medical terminology knowledge preferred.
- Typing speed of 25–30 words per minute and a clerical examination passing score.
- Passport experience or prior experience in hospital admissions, physician office, or business office preferred.
- Certification in all Patient Access Services functions within one year of hire.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail orientation, good deductive reasoning, empathy for patients, and strong teamwork.
- Accept authority and follow instructions well.
Sitting 3-4 hours; standing 3-4 hours; walking 3-4 hours. Moderate lifting 20–25 lbs, moderate bending, squatting, kneeling. Frequent fine motor movement; good visual and hearing discrimination.
Mental Effort- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail orientation and good deductive reasoning.
- Empathy for patients and high level of interaction with patients and employees throughout the work day.
- Team builder and collaborative.
