Job OverviewThe Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) seeks a motivated Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC 1‑3, In Training) to provide comprehensive counseling and case management for students, youth, and adults with disabilities. The role is located at the Sea Tac Community Services Office;
King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to advertised salary.
- Serve a caseload of 50–110 DVR customers.
- Determine each customer’s eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services.
- Provide counseling, support, and comprehensive assessments to identify disability‑related barriers and appropriate VR services.
- Arrange and interpret diagnostic testing results and other assessment tools; obtain benefit reports and interpret findings.
- Assist customers in developing and implementing an Individual Plan for Employment (IPE) and monitor progress toward employment goals.
- Maintain close working relationships with partners serving DVR customers, promote DVR programs, and conduct community outreach.
- Lead group orientations, workshops, and related activities to facilitate informed choices and prepare customers for employment.
- Current Certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC),
or a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, counseling, or a related field. - Or a master’s degree with at least 18 quarter (12 semester) hours of rehabilitation counseling courses, plus 6 months of related experience.
- Or a bachelor’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling or a reasonably related field with enrollment in an accredited vocational rehab master’s program within two years, plus one year of experience working directly with people with disabilities or relevant professional experience (e.g., independent living center, employment services, human resources).
- Technical knowledge of medical and psychological aspects of disabling conditions, labor market information, transferable skills evaluation, assistive technology, and job modifications.
- Ability to assist customers in exercising informed choices and making collaborative decisions aligned with VR practice.
- Support customers in accessing a wide range of social, educational, and financial resources.
- Manage multiple and competing priorities within prescribed time limits.
- Negotiate with vendors and collaborate with other rehabilitation professionals.
