Work Location Federal Detention Center-Sea Tac Health Services Department 2425 South 200th Street Sea Tac, WA 98198- Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
- Period of Performance: Estimated: 15 December 2025 – 14 December 2026.
- Type of Employment: Full-time
- Estimated Pay: $31.04 – $36.13 per hour.
- Pay Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Holidays.
- Paid Time Off: 80 hours, occurring on day one.
- Sick Leave: 56 hours, occurring on day one.
- Working Hours: The Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse will work 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Compressed work schedules, such as 12‑hour rotations, may be available based on the institution's needs and the employer's mutual consent. Working hours will not exceed 40 per week. Specific working hours will be coordinated with the Health Services Department.
Qualifications
- A graduate from a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
- Exceptions include Health care education in the military service or training in the military service.
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association.
- At least six (6) months of applicable experience as evidenced on their resume.
- Two (2) letters of reference.
- Experience working in a correctional environment is preferred but not required.
- You must be able to lift boxes and equipment, and the weight should not exceed 25 pounds.

Summary of Duties: Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse will provide support to the onsite medical team in taking care of both male and female Adults in Custody who are waiting for sentencing, transfer, and/or trial. The Federal Detention Center (FDC) in Sea Tac provides a range of medical, dental, and mental health services, including routine and urgent care, chronic condition management, and psychological support.
Attire
The Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing. Jeans (of any color), T‑shirts, tank tops, and sweatpants/shirts are not considered professional attire. Items specifically prohibited include, but are not limited to open‑toed shoes and sleeveless, see‑through, or skin‑tight clothing.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff.
- Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure.
- Administer medications as prescribed, i.e., by mouth, intradermally, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly.
- Assist with the distribution of medications at the pill line.
- Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy.
- Perform skin testing.
- Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens.
- Record and document patient care activities on appropriate records, such as health history.
- Record diagnostic testing, i.e., venipuncture for laboratory studies, visual acuity testing, EKGs (per instructions from mid‑level practitioners or physicians).
- Process lab work to include filing daily.
- Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and JACHO policy.
- Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal laboratory values and notify the physician or physicians.
- Ensure all sharps are secured, accounted for, stored, and disposed of according to institutional and national policy.
- Assist the mid‑level practitioners and physicians in the management and oversight of chronic care clinics.
