The Senior Analyst – Technical Accounting, Projects & Controls role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations.
Responsibilities- Serve as a technical accounting resource for the Accounting and Finance teams, researching and applying U.S. GAAP (including ASC 606 and other relevant standards) to complex and unusual transactions.
- Analyze and document accounting conclusions for new products, business models, and contract structures, including multi‑element arrangements and government contracts.
- Lead project and contract set‑up in the ERP and subledger systems, ensuring appropriate configuration of key attributes (e.g., funding, performance obligations, milestones, billing terms, cost tracking).
- Support revenue recognition assessments and documentation for significant customer arrangements, including identification of performance obligations, allocation of consideration, and treatment of contract modifications.
- Design, maintain, and improve internal controls over key accounting cycles (e.g., project set‑up, order‑to‑cash, procure‑to‑pay, close and reporting), ensuring compliance with US GAAP and applicable Government Accounting Standards.
- Partner with cross‑functional teams (Business Unit Finance, Contracts, Legal, Operations, Tax, Program Management) to evaluate accounting implications of business decisions and to operationalize accounting policies.
- Identify, lead, and implement process improvements and automation opportunities across the accounting organization, driving efficiency, standardization, and data quality.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, process documentation, and technical memos to support internal reviews and external audits.
- Provide training and guidance to Accounting, Finance, and business partners on technical accounting topics, project/account set‑up, and control requirements.
- Act as a flexible “utility player” within the Accounting team by stepping into high‑priority projects, special initiatives, and ad hoc analyses as business needs evolve.
- Bachelor’s degree with concentration in accounting or finance.
- 5+ years general accounting experience, including application of ASC 606.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and internal controls over financial reporting.
- Self‑starter with bias for action – builder vs. maintainer mentality.
