Nationwide invites you to apply for the role of Specialist, Loss Control within our Property and Casualty team. As a Loss Control Specialist, you will consult and provide risk control services to a large portfolio of complex accounts, influence profitability and retention, and help clients achieve their operational and safety goals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide risk‑management services for a large portfolio of complex accounts to influence profitability and retention.
- Meet with customers to identify hazards and exposures through risk assessments, and recommend technically sound improvements.
- Research customer operations, industry, and technical information to prepare for site surveys, presentations, and projects.
- Build technical acumen and become a subject‑matter expert for a single line of business or practice.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, and agents; act as an ongoing resource and contact person.
- Consult with customers to provide observations, solutions, and support, creating service objectives based on customer goals and loss analysis.
- Communicate technical information effectively in writing and verbally, preparing technical reports within a state‑of‑the‑art workflow environment.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, sharing information that helps customers succeed.
- Perform and coordinate technical training for internal and external customers.
- Actively participate in career development activities and training.
Bachelor’s degree in safety, science, engineering, fire protection, or construction management (preferred).
License / Certification / DesignationExpectation of progress toward professional designations such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and others; all required state certifications must be obtained.
ExperienceFive to ten years of commercial loss control or related experience (preferred).
Knowledge, Abilities and SkillsGeneral knowledge of safety and risk management practices and principles, including OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and national consensus standards; understanding of the commercial insurance business process and the role of loss control; strong verbal and written communication; ability to prioritize work and time; ability to operate a personal computer and related systems.
Job ConditionsOvertime eligibility:
Exempt (Not Eligible).
Working Conditions:
Field‑based position requiring climbing, stooping, bending, balancing on heights, crawling, and lifting 50 lbs; use of PPE when required; conduct physical site surveys in inclement weather and varied environments; frequent and overnight travel may be required; valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required.
