Assistant or Associate Professor, Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine, on the Clinician-Scholar pathway. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch (primary appointment) and the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM), Department of Medicine at the UW (joint appointment).

The academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. University of Washington Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and Associate Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The successful candidate will be appointed on the Clinician Scholar track and will have protected time for research, teaching, and mentorship. They will be expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research primarily focused on patients with lung disease.

There is opportunity to conduct clinical research with existing comprehensive clinical databases and ongoing prospective studies. The candidate will also have the opportunity and resources to develop their own clinical research programs. Relevant areas of research include but are not limited to lung cancer diagnosis, nodule management, pulmonary infections in the immunocompromised host, and pulmonary complications relating to cancer immunotherapies and bone marrow transplantation.

The candidate will evaluate and manage patients in Pulmonary ambulatory service lines, including the Pulmonary Consult Clinic and the Lung Cancer Early Detection and Prevention Clinic (LCEDPC). The Pulmonary Consult Clinic manages clinical concerns including lung complications of hematopoietic cell transplantation including lung graft-versus-host disease, pneumonitis from cancer immunotherapies, immunocompromised host lung infection, and general pulmonary disease. The LCEDPC handles pulmonary nodules, lung cancer diagnosis and staging, as well as referrals for advanced bronchoscopy including EBUS and navigational bronchoscopy.

The candidate will have the opportunity to perform bronchoscopy in a state-of-the-art procedure suite. Teaching responsibilities involve oversight of PCCSM Fellows during their outpatient clinical rotation or continuity clinics, and lectures at various FHCC conferences targeted for Hematology/Oncology faculty and mid-level providers. As a joint faculty member with UW PCCSM, there will be opportunity to participation in UW teaching conferences.

The position will involve significant interaction with colleagues in Infectious Diseases, Heme/Onc and Marrow Transplantation, as well as PCCSM colleagues across the UW enterprise. This position will be based at the South Lake Union main campus but may require the incumbent to participate in inpatient consultative and / or ICU services at UWMC-Montlake.

Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will involve oversight of advanced practice providers and fellows during inpatient and outpatient rotations, and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.

Faculty are expected to perform their primary activities on-site at Fred Hutch.
