Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric General Surgery at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor without tenure (WOT), by reason of funding with an anticipated start date of January 2027. The successful candidate will be expected to support the department's commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.
Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1 – June 30). Associate Professors WOT and Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July-June). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination, the base salary range for this position will be:
- Assistant Professor, $35,417-$39,584 ($425,004 - $475,008 annually)
- Associate Professor, $41,667-$50,000 ($500,004 - $600,000 annually)
- Professor $52,084-$56,250 ($625,008 - $675,000 annually)
The successful candidate will be expected to provide the full spectrum of general surgical care and surgical oncology care for pediatric patients. including developing and leading our surgical oncology team. The primary site of practice for this position is Seattle Children’s Hospital, and the successful candidate may participate at other sites consistent with regional affiliations and strategy. Pediatric General Surgery at Seattle Children’s Hospital consists of 16 board-certified pediatric surgeons and supports a busy tertiary care hospital practice in addition to regional clinics.
This practice may include a significant commitment to laboratory research or clinical outcomes research related to surgical oncology. The successful candidate may pursue extramural funding with emphasis on federal grant submissions regarding bench or outcomes research related to the individual’s clinical practice. The successful candidate will be given adequate protected time to develop academic endeavors. Excellent clinical epidemiologic and basic science research resources are available, including opportunity for involvement with the Seattle Children’s Institute for Research (SCIR), the Department of Surgery Division of Research, as well as the Department of Surgery Surgical Outcome Research Center (SORCE).
Additional responsibilities include engagement in the selection and training of residents and fellows.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
QualificationsApplicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- MD degree (or foreign equivalent)
- Board eligibility (or foreign equivalent) by the American Board of Surgery
- Eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington
- In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
