Position Description

The Music Department at Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University invites applications for a part-time, adjunct faculty position in bass instruction (acoustic and electric) starting in January 2026. We are seeking a dynamic and versatile teaching artist with expertise across a wide range of musical styles, including classical, jazz, improvisation, and contemporary music. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fostering creativity and innovation, collaborating with composers and performers, and tailoring instruction to meet the needs of a diverse student body.

This is a part-time position, contingent on student enrollment in bass studies during a given semester.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individual bass instruction to undergraduate students.
  • Teach a range of musical styles, including classical, jazz, improvisation, and contemporary music.
  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to foster an environment of creativity and innovation.
  • Support the development of each student's unique artistic voice through personalized instruction.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in music.
  • Fluency in a range of musical styles, including classical, jazz, improvisation, and contemporary music.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience.
  • Significant experience as a performer.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in music or equivalent professional experience.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach in classroom or ensemble settings, with a focus on collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Experience in composition, electronic music, recording, and production, or other areas of interest.
  • An artistic profile with recognition at the local, national, or international levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and inspire high-level students.

Compensation At a Glance

Per 15 Week Semester:
Private Instruction; $1107; 2-credit course $3935; 3-credit course $5902. Seattle University provides a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. Seattle University provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your total compensation package.
