Early Literacy Tutor

Early-literacy tutors work one-on-one with elementary-school students to support their growth in writing, reading, and more. They choose when, where, and with whom they would like to work.

We do not have an office. Contracting tutors work independently with Write Seattle students, often at one of the libraries the tutor chooses as a "home library."

Note:
Unless you live in Seattle or nearby, this position probably won’t be convenient. While all tutors have the option to take online sessions, we are not currently looking for online-only tutors.

This is part-time contract work, and it will usually take some time to build up to your desired number of students/hours per week. And even if you were fully available, it'd be hard to get more than 20 hours/week given the hours when students are generally looking for tutoring: between 3:30 and 8pm on Mondays through Thursdays, or on the weekend.

Undergraduate degree, ideally one that emphasizedreading,writing, teaching, or early-childhood development. (Graduate degree is a plus!)

Enough experience teachingearly-literacy skills that you can work independently with students. There is no Write Seattle curriculum or any set structure for howtutorsconduct sessions.

Tutorsmust be confident meeting with a student, assessing their needs, and then coming up with lessons and projects that will support the growth of their reading and writing skills.
