The Evergreen School, an independent school serving highly capable students in preschool through 8th grade, is currently accepting applications for a Middle School STEM Teaching Assistant (TA).
THE OPPORTUNITYThe Evergreen School is seeking a STEM Teaching Assistant to join our Upper Division (4th‑8th Grade). Teaching assistants work in partnership with, and at the direction of, the division head, the associate division head, and the middle section teaching team. TAs help to implement the curriculum, provide supervision, and maintain the classroom. They work with the division head, associate division head, and teachers to develop systems for accomplishing these ends in accordance with the official teaching assistant job description.

Duties and Responsibilities- Communicate regularly with the middle school teaching teams concerning classroom roles, student goals, progress, and planning so the TA understands how to best use their skills.
- Implement instructional strategies in ways that support middle school teachers and are in concert with the school’s philosophy.
- Accompany groups, classes, or individuals when traveling outside the classroom (field trips, class changes, office visits, etc.).
- Inform the appropriate teacher or administrator in a timely fashion in the event of concerns about a student.
- Work with students in small groups, individually, or as a whole class.
- Work in a role as a short‑term substitute teacher, as assigned by the division head.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as copying and mounting displays.
- Provide assistance to teachers before the school year begins and after the school year ends, according to the work schedule published by the division head.
- Prepare materials for projects and/or instructional sessions as determined by their supervising teacher.
- Maintain classroom supplies and assist with the ordering process.
- Prepare written notes, make copies, and assemble correspondence to send home with students.
- Serve as a regular recess monitor, implement recess rules and expectations, lead group recess activities, and report notable student behaviors to the upper division office.
- Attend and participate in required school events, training sessions, and meetings as designated by Evergreen leadership.
- Monitor student arrival and departure procedures and traffic flow.
- Maintain appropriate standards for student behavior.
- Adhere to guidelines, procedures, and policies in the Employee Handbook.
- Take on other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience- High school diploma or equivalent. A college degree or currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in education is preferred.
- At least one year of working with upper elementary or middle school students, preferably in an educational setting.
- Possess both science and math content knowledge, and specifically an ability to support students with mathematical concepts up to and including high school geometry.
- Creative and resourceful approach to problem‑solving with a focus on student and community needs.
- Strong customer service orientation and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
