Glass Art Kalamazoo (GAK) is a nonprofit community arts education studio located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Our mission is to enrich the community by providing exceptional experiences in glass art. Classes are offered in glass blowing, lamp working, bead making, cold working, and kiln fusing. In addition to hands-on art classes, GAK presents art exhibitions, hosts visiting artists, and provides outreach to the community through programs like Journey Beads, our partnership with Bronson Children’s Hospital to create beads for children with cancer.
Glass Art Kalamazoo is searching for an experienced bead making instructor to join our team of part-time instructors in the Bead Studio. Instructors typically teach from 2 to 8 classes/month (8-24 hours/month) at a rate of $25/hour. Instructors will work directly with the public to give hands-on experiences in glass art. Classes range in length from single Make It! Classes (like basic beads, specialty beads, etc.)
to longer lessons and multi-week courses. Must have some bead making experience, a passion for teaching, and ability to work with the public.
Qualifications:
At least two years’ experience bead making. Bead making instructing experience is preferred. Excellent customer service skills and enthusiasm for bead making is desired. Must have knowledge of Bead Studio and related tools. Availability on weekends and evenings at our Kalamazoo location is necessary. This position reports to the Studio Manager.
Compensation:
Hours vary dependent on classes but will mostly occur on weekends and in the evening (8-24 hours/month). Starting Hourly Rate: $25/hour.
