Talent Development Lead role at Barry’s.

Overview

Barry’s is the Best Workout in the World™. Founded in 1998, it delivers a high‑intensity, one‑hour workout combining strength and cardio. The Talent Development Lead (TDL) serves as a culture ambassador, class programming guide, and leader for the regional Talent team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support instructor development to drive the WOW experience.
  • Help instructors develop and deliver a signature experience in their Red Room classes through effective programming, inclusive music/play listing, and consistent engagement.
  • Coach instructors on building community via in‑and‑out‑of‑studio engagement and social media promotion.
  • Partner with Marketing to develop brand‑aligned social media presence and personal marketing strategies.
  • Partner with instructors to create WOW programming aligned with Barry’s guidelines.
  • Address programming‑related issues limiting instructor growth, development, and performance.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Director of Instructor Talent (DOIT) to provide feedback on instructor performance and address MVV alignment issues.
  • In partnership with the DOIT, conduct one team‑building event per quarter.
  • Execute new programming guidelines based on talent leadership direction.
Experience Evaluations and Quality Assurance
  • Conduct one WOW Experience Evaluation per week, followed by a 30‑minute follow‑up meeting to provide feedback/coaching.
  • Evaluate instructors with less than 1 year tenure quarterly; those with more than 1 year tenure bi‑annually.
  • Hold 2‑4 individual 30‑minute informal touch‑base meetings per month to support instructor growth.
  • Ensure a WOW class is taught consistently by all instructors in the region.
  • Participate in schedule optimization processes as requested.
Instructor Recruitment and Training
  • First point of contact for interested instructor candidates.
  • Develop and manage a talent pipeline to maintain top‑market instructors.
  • Source at least one qualified candidate per month during active recruitment periods.
  • Partner with Talent Leadership to finalize and select candidates for instructor roles.
  • Lead new instructor training, delivering curriculum and brand feedback.
  • Manage pre‑ and post‑training processes to support new instructors.
Teaching
  • Own schedule of a minimum of 15 Red Room classes per week, flexed as needed.
Team Building
  • Conduct one instructor team meeting per month.
  • Host one Barry’s bonding activity each quarter.
  • Take 1‑2 classes per week across studios to provide performance feedback.
  • Communicate efficiently with the DOIT, talent leadership, and studio management.
  • Represent Barry’s brand and standards in each class.
  • Mentor new instructors through encouragement and support.
  • Embody MVV and drive culture across the region.
Minimum Requirements
  • Full‑time availability (40 hours per week) with weekend flexibility.
  • Hold and maintain instructor or personal training certification, CPR certification, and experience leading group training or working as a personal trainer.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and people skills.
  • Familiarity with MS Office, Google Suite, and various business software.
  • Be in the top 50% performance among peers.
  • No MVV or disciplinary issues within the last 12 months.
  • Relevant teaching experience with a proven track record of delivering results.
  • Minimum 1 year tenure at Barry’s, having taught at least 576 classes.
  • OR for external candidates: minimum 2 years of relevant group fitness teaching experience outside Barry’s.
  • Demonstrated track record of success.
  • Proven leader in the regional fitness community.
  • Meets all other requirements listed above (excluding Barry’s related criteria).
Essential Skills & Abilities
  • Work a full‑time schedule of at least 40 hours per week, 5 days per week.
  • Maintain regular, consistent, and reliable attendance.
  • Consistently sit, stand, bend, reach, lift, push, and pull 20 pounds.
  • Type, speak, read, and write for up to 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • Use telephone/computer for up to 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English with coworkers, customers, and vendors.
  • Lead and manage subordinate employees.
  • Think creatively and respond timely to predictable and unpredictable workplace issues.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understand, consider, and assess the financial impact of decisions.
