Summary
The I-BEST Instructor will co-teach part-time in one of our I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training) programs. In partnership with professional-technical faculty, I-BEST instructors use a co-teaching model to develop and deliver curriculum to build students basic and academic skills and promote their success in their chosen program and beyond. The I-BEST Instructor will deliver high-quality instruction to students enrolled in I-BEST programs, including Automotive Technology, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Culinary and Pastry Arts, Landscape Horticulture, and Welding Fabrication Technology.
This position requires a commitment to student-centered learning, cultural responsiveness, and collaboration with content area faculty. Candidates should be willing to teach in a variety of formats (in-class, hybrid, online) and varied class times (including days, evenings, and/or weekends) according to program needs. Successful applicants will work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion.
This position supports students in achieving academic and career goals through development of essential math, language, technical, communication and academic skills. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle. The salary range for part-time faculty is $7,110.33 - $10,649.33 (P1: A1- E7).
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction in essential math, language, technical, communication and academic skills tailored to the needs of I-BEST students and their chosen field
- Co-teach with content area faculty in I-BEST certificate programs, sharing instructional responsibilities to enhance student success
- Provide dedicated basic skills instruction in any I-BEST-related support courses
- Offer culturally responsive advising and support to students to address barriers to academic achievement
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Master's degree in a related field and/or equivalent education and experience such as a bachelor's degree and teaching certificate
- Experience teaching math, language, technical, communication, and/or academic skills to adults or high school students
- Demonstrated experience working with at-risk populations in an educational setting
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems (Seattle Colleges uses Canvas), video conferencing, and other instructional technology
- Proven ability to contextualize basic skills instruction for trade-related fields
- Experience with or willingness to develop and teach online courses
- Commitment to fostering equity, belonging, and multicultural responsiveness
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and modification
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues and students from various backgrounds
