Library Assistant (part-time/temporary)
Seattle Central College seeks a Library Assistant to provide library circulation services primarily at the Health Education Center at Pacific Tower. This part‑time, 1‑year temporary position is 8 to 16 hours per week, Monday through Thursday afternoons when classes are in session, with possible summer work as needed.
Pay: $21.61 per hour.
Position Summary:
The assistant performs circulation services, uses the integrated library system, circulates library items, reshelves cards, straightens shelves, counts circulated items, conducts shelf‑reads, and participates in outreach activities. The role requires a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude.
- Provide welcoming, effective, and timely library check‑out service.
- Answer basic informational and directional questions; refer users to appropriate staff as needed.
- Search for materials.
- Perform circulation functions of checking materials and other resources in and out.
- Process materials, including stamping and labeling.
- Shelve, shift, and shelf‑read items.
- Contribute to library‑wide activities and planning to promote inclusion and equity in library services.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- High school graduation.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate library policy and processes.
- Proficiency in using standard office productivity applications, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Ability to read and enter data quickly and accurately.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain positive relationships.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting equitable access and service to a diverse community.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a regular basis. The employer will not sponsor work visas. Seattle Colleges does not extend post‑completion optional practical training (OPT) to F‑1 students with STEM degrees.
