The salary range for this position is $54,800.00 – $82,200.00 (Grade: Professional 305). Compensation decisions are based on individual factors such as skill set, experience, and business needs.

Job Description

As a Student Success Coach, your primary mission is to support the success of WGU Academy students who are assigned to you. You will help students complete required college-level courses before enrolling full‑time, and you will develop their confidence, study habits, emotional well‑being, and communication skills to succeed at the Academy and beyond.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provide coaching and support for an average student load set by department standards, guiding progress in completing 2 or more college‑eligible courses over 2‑4 months.
  • Leverage motivational interviewing techniques to influence positive behavior change.
  • Facilitate the Academy’s “college success” readiness curriculum during the first month, including online modules, group coaching, and personal coaching sessions.
  • Lead virtual small‑group sessions that create community and inspire students.
  • Offer encouragement, reinforce positive behaviors, and celebrate milestones of assigned students.
  • Collaborate with Success Coaches, supporting teammates and providing input on improvement opportunities.
  • Embrace WGU Leadership Principles with an emphasis on learning, courage, and student obsession.
  • Analyze and interpret data to improve student success and team productivity.
  • Assist students with Academy systems and solve administrative problems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Establish empathy, active listening, optimism, and a genuine concern for student success.
  • Demonstrate high energy and enthusiasm for virtual group sessions.
  • Create strong rapport and communication skills, especially via web conference.
  • Promote a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Work independently with regular feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Show courage focused on what is best for students and the team.
  • Champion change and remain flexible in ambiguous environments.
  • Have intermediate experience working with sophisticated technology systems.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of coaching principles and positive psychology.
Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Accredited coaching certification
  • Experience facilitating, presenting, or teaching in a remote online environment
  • 3+ years of coaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ICF Accredited Coach Training or NBHWC
  • Experience supporting adult learners in distance learning environments
  • Experience working with at‑risk learners
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM tools
  • One year in a high‑volume coaching center or at least one year at WGU Academy with proficiency in motivational interviewing for six months
  • Two years of professional experience teaching or facilitating groups or delivering social‑emotional learning curriculum consistently for six months
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Position & Application Details

Full‑time regular position (40 hours per week).
