King County Road Services Division, Engineering Section is looking for a Drainage Engineer Project Manager (Engineer III) to join our dynamic team! Our successful candidate will serve in a lead capacity in a multi-disciplinary team overseeing consultant design of drainage improvement projects for contract construction. This position is also responsible for ensuring that engineering designs comply with the King County Road Standards and the King County Surface Water Design Manual.

- Lead the drainage design engineer team by planning, directing, monitoring their daily work on drainage projects, emergency road repairs and fish passage projects;
- Prepare and update project schedules, budgets and work plans to complete assigned work programs and projects;
- Serve as liaison between consultants, construction contract administrators, Maintenance Supervisors, crew chiefs, design engineers, environmental staff, and permitting agencies on assigned projects and programs;
- Prepare and/or manage the preparation of hydrologic reports, geomorphic assessment reports, hydraulic analyses, modeling reports, contract plans, specifications, special provisions and cost estimates;
- Review, approve and prepare drainage design reports, constructions plans, specifications and project estimates;
- Prepare road drainage plans, slide repair plans and drainage design reports to ensure projects meet King County Road Standards, King County Surface Water Design Manual requirements and other environmental permitting regulations of local, state and federal authorities.
- Have demonstrated working knowledge of floodplain modeling, stream geomorphology, and fish passage design OR any combination of education and experience necessary to perform the job duties;
- Professional civil engineering work experience;
- Work experience in the use of AutoCADD and/or Civil3D and demonstrated proficiency through skills testing of the use of AutoCADD and Civil 3D;
- Are familiar with drainage, roadway feature maintenance and construction practices, standards and design principles;
- Have the ability to be a strong and effective people leader who can have crucial conversations and is knowledgeable of project management principles;
- Is knowledgeable of hydrology and hydraulic design of storm water systems;
- Have experience in effectively working with a team that contributes to a work environment that embraces and encourages diversity in its workforce and where differences are valued;
- Can manage and prioritize a high volume of diverse projects and multiple competing tasks with a strong attention to detail;
- Are skilled in problem solving and can effectively manage conflict;
- Are able to handle politically sensitive issues with grace;
- Are proficient in the use the Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Project) applications in your daily work, and skill using AutoCADD, Civil3D, HEC- RAS, MGS Flood, GPS and GIS programs.
- Have a valid Washington State Driver’s License;
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical
- A professional civil engineering license in the State of Washington.
- The typical work schedule for this position is 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday. This position is overtime eligible.
- This position is represented by Professional Technical Employees Local 17.
