Salary

Salary range is $80k to $175k, with a midpoint of $125k. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

General Purpose

With limited direction, performs advanced senior level professional engineering duties in the area of responsibility. Serves as the agency subject matter expert for all phases of Sound Transit projects. Provides technical and strategic support to project directors and managers. Oversees a full range of structural engineering analyses, functions, and design. Ensures conformance with standards and responds to questions and inquiries from local jurisdictions, the public, contractors, consultants, and Agency staff regarding area of expertise.

Essential

Functions
  • Serves as Sound Transit's technical matter expert and point of contact for matters related to structural engineering. Responds to questions and inquiries from the general public, contractors, consultants, and agency staff in the area of expertise.
  • Develops and maintains Sound Transit's technical requirements and criteria related to structural engineering, including but not limited to design criteria, standard specifications and drawings. May be required to sign and seal technical requirements.
  • Provides structural engineering support to Project Managers throughout the planning, design and construction phase of capital projects. Support includes but is not limited to design reviews, construction submittal reviews, structural analysis reviews, alternative reviews, etc. Ensures projects are meeting Sound Transit and local agency standards.
  • Collaborates with staff in the Safety Department and Operations Department in evaluation of existing structures for Link, Sounder, and ST Express. Support may include but not limited to bridge inspections, developer reviews, and engineering analysis for load ratings and modifications to the system.
  • Provides support to the department/division and others on matters as directed; serves as staff on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence; attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the fields related to area of assignment; incorporates new developments as appropriate; ensures processes, policies and practices are interpreted and applied consistently and effectively;

    ensures accountability and compliance with all current and applicable state and federal laws, Agency policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
