At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond.

Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

As part of an outstanding and highly-skilled team, you’ll be responsible for structural analysis of New Glenn Second Stage primary and secondary structures; as well as developing analysis processes. This is a hands-on position that involves all aspects of structural analysis throughout design, assembly, testing, and flight operations.
** Note**:
This is a 12-15 month fixed-term position with full benefits.
** Responsibilities:
*** Complete hand calculation and FEM analyses to report margins of safety for primary and secondary aerospace structures
* Documentation of stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings / documents
* Understanding of repair methods and analytical practices for both composite and metallic structure
* Collaborate closely with designers, providing technical guidance on design concepts (risk vs. cost vs. performance)
* Supporting cross organizational teams with input for production activities and configuration development
* Analysis checks for designers and junior structural analysts in stress/stability/fracture analysis and standard processes
* Improving enterprise analysis capabilities such as crafting process automation tools for model creation, strength checks, and analysis report generation
* Provide technical guidance and on-site support for manufacturing, production, and integration activities
* Prepare technical content and present to internal customers
* Perform research, develop concepts, and run trade studies
*
* Minimum Qualifications:

*** Minimum of a B.S. degree (M.S. preferred) in engineering and 2+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, or automotive
* Proven expertise with one or more of the following analysis codes, particularly with reading and manipulating input files:
Nastran, Hyperworks, Optistruct, Ansys
* Understanding of FEM modeling techniques (boundary conditions, bolted connections, contact, verification methods)
* Strong fundamental understanding of structural load paths
* Strong skills with free-body diagrams for internal and reaction load derivation
* Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methods (ex: Bruhn, Niu, Roark)
* Analysis of composite and/or metallic flight structures (sandwich panels, skin-stringer, fittings, isogrid, joints, or similar)
* Familiarity with typical failure modes and standard test methods for both composite and metallic structures (e.g., shear tear-out, net section failure, torsion buckling, interlaminar shear, etc)
* Analysis of stability critical structures (local buckling phenomenon, global buckling, crippling)
* Mesh generation (ex: mid-surfacing) and understanding of element types
* Bolted joint calculations (bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear-tension interaction, insert pull-out, shims)
* Able to effectively communicate and collaborate across teams
* Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn, take ownership, and drive projects to completion
* Collaborative approach…
