This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line – the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a multidisciplinary team of Avionics engineers, you will deliver Avionics hardware systems to New Shepard. You will be integrated with our rocket program and technical leads to drive requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, test, and production release of on‑vehicle launch, components, and sub‑systems.

This is a hands‑on position that will involve you in all aspects of engineering, design, fabrication, installation, test, and operations support.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Create and modify 3D models in Creo of mechanical Avionics components, assemblies, and installations
  • Initiate and track engineering releases through Windchill
  • Create and track progress via Jira tickets, engaging in agile project management and participating in daily standups and other sprint meetings
  • Perform design, material, and component trade studies and risk assessments
  • Author and review technical documents including drawings, analysis reports, and procedures
  • Conduct and participate in design and readiness reviews
  • Communicate technical information using verbal, written, and presentation formats
  • As necessary, plan and conduct engineering validation tests
  • Review and interpret test results and data
  • Manage priorities and tasks to meet promised dates for deliverables
  • Effectively engage with personnel from other teams including Electrical, Systems, Manufacturing, Test Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Quality.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Passion for Blue Origin’s mission:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
  • 5+ years of recent experience designing high reliability mechanical assemblies
  • Proven Mechanical design skills using 3‑D CAD software such as Creo or Solid Works
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering structural design and analysis methods (Bruhn, Marks’ Standard Handbook, Shigley)
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical or equivalent finite element analysis applications
  • Competency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and familiarity with ASME Y14.5 and standard drawing practices in ASME Y14.100
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering field
  • 8+ years of recent experience designing high reliability mechanical assemblies
  • Extensive experience with PTC Creo 10 and PTC Windchill
  • Experience designing wiring harnesses, 3D routing, designing harnessing supports, and creating harnessing drawings
  • Experience crafting and building electro‑mechanical assemblies
  • Experience with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics
  • Experience with environmental testing including thermal testing, vibration, and shock
  • Experience with aerospace, launch vehicle, or spacecraft mechanical and/or avionics systems
  • Hands‑on, practical mechanical abilities
  • Flexibility and openness to tackling varied assignments and learning new skills
