Job DescriptionThe Carbon Robotics Laser Weeder™ uses advanced robotics, computer vision, AI, and laser technology to eliminate weeds with sub‑millimeter precision, all without herbicides. The Laser Weeder is developed in Seattle and manufactured at our Richland, Washington facility. With $157 million in venture funding, Carbon Robotics is focused on delivering environmentally responsible, high‑impact solutions for modern farming.
As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will leverage your experience in architecture, design, analysis, prototyping, and production to develop vehicle structures for our robotic systems. You will mentor junior engineers and partner with manufacturing and testing teams to ensure product reliability.
What you’ll do- Work on a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary team to develop, deploy, and sustain robotic vehicle products.
- Own key elements of the vehicle architecture, design, analysis, testing, and support for primary structures, body panels, and suspension/steering system integration.
- Define and support structural qualification testing, and lead initial production builds at Richland.
- Own standards and compliance scoping and documentation for the products you design.
- 8 to 15 years of experience designing, testing, producing, and supporting complex mechanical and structural parts, assemblies, or systems in automotive, agricultural, aerospace, or equivalent markets.
- Proficiency with CAD (e.g., Solid Works) and analysis tools (e.g., Ansys Mechanical, Ansys Motion).
- Extensive knowledge of configuring FEA simulations and interpreting results.
- Hands‑on experience designing and producing sheet metal, bar stock, machined, weldments, thermoplastic, and composite parts.
- Design experience for harsh outdoor environments to protect against water ingress, rust, corrosion, and shock/vibe damage.
- Rapid prototyping, troubleshooting, and iteration skills.
- Experience working with a test engineering organization for structural qualification testing.
- Familiarity with SAE, DOT, and relevant codes and compliance.
- Experience as a responsible engineer (highly desired).
- Ability to work with direct and matrixed management to achieve timely objectives.
- Comfort working directly with customers and traveling ~10% of the time.
- BS+ in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
$150,000—$195,000 USD (base salary). Packages include benefits premiums, pre‑IPO stock options, and opportunities for commissions.
