This role offers an opportunity to apply quantitative skills to current and future energy supply challenges within the Power Supply Division.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design and perform probabilistic and statistical studies on sources of uncertainty such as climate change, weather, hydrologic conditions, energy prices, and power plant operating data.
  • Advance current software or develop new dashboards to facilitate robust and flexible trading strategies related to market and weather volatility.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and efficient code following best programming practices.
  • Lead the execution of forecasting models, ensuring regular runs and clear communication of results to colleagues and management.
  • Prepare ad‑hoc program reports regarding City Light's peak load, generation, and hydro and temperature data using Excel, SQL Developer, etc.
  • Evaluate impacts of operational changes, equipment upgrades, and retirements on total loads, resource balance, and energy accounting; adapt power system reports accordingly.
  • Collaborate on streamflow management strategy for the power marketing team to align trading strategy with operational license requirements.
  • Monitor power market conditions and advise senior management on risks and opportunities related to power supply and marketing strategy.
  • Query, verify, and report operations data related to the utility’s source and use of energy, generator status, generation, control and planning area information; prepare mandatory reports for regulatory agencies.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Five years of experience in power management, utility operations, hydrology, engineering, math, or statistics, or two years as a Power Analyst.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Math, Economics, or other scientific discipline (combination of education, training, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis).
  • Current valid state‑issued driver’s license from any U.S. state, verified prior to start date. Out‑of‑state holders must obtain a Washington state license within 30 days of hire.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or education in economics, mathematics, computer science, operations research, power systems, engineering or a related quantitative field.
  • Solid computer and analytical skills, including experience in programming and using Python, SQL, Git, R, and VBA.
  • Experience with short‑term capacity forecasting and simulation modeling.
  • Knowledge of hydro, renewables, and gas resource fundamentals.
  • Experience in power and/or transmission portfolio performance and analysis.
  • Understanding of energy markets and regional regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of regional energy supply, transmission, resource operations, and market issues in the Pacific Northwest and CAISO.
  • Excellent teamwork, leadership, and project planning skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex planning issues clearly to policy makers, stakeholders, technical audiences, and the general public.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities and think strategically about challenges faced by City Light.
Additional Information

The full salary range for this position is $63.93 to $74.37 per hour.
