Position: Industrial Design Architect (ME/PDE)
Summary:
Meta Reality Labs is shaping the future of technology and our Industrial Design team is helping bring the next generation of hardware to life. As an Industrial Design Architect, you will use your hands-on Mechanical Engineering skills to create delightful, holistically considered products. A demonstrated mechanical aptitude and in-depth understanding of industrial design will enable you to take things from “outlandish idea” to “plan of record”.
Required Skills:Collaborate closely with the Industrial Design team to develop technical solutions ranging from high-level experience prototypes to detailed, functional designsDrive rapid concept exploration, iterative prototyping, and mechanical implementation of inventive design features and mechanismsPush the state of the art of physical technology integration, component optimization, and manufacturing processesCreate and refine effective ways to address complex ergonomic challengesPartner closely with Product Design Engineering and other internal teams to enable design intent and rapidly move projects forwardLeverage external partners as needed to implement novel component designs and manufacturing solutionsTravel internationally to support manufacturing buildsMinimum Qualifications:A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience5+ years of experience developing high-volume consumer electronics or wearable tech productsExpertise in creating high-fidelity mockups, mechanisms, and rapid prototypesExperience designing plastic and metal parts for high volume manufacturing processesExpertise in 3D CAD modeling at the detail and assembly level in NX, Creo, or Solidworks, including complex surfacingExperience working collaboratively with , ME, EE, and PM teamsProven communication, visualization, and problem solving skillsExcelling in highly ambiguous situationsPreferred Qualifications:7+ years of product design and development experience of handheld and/or wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing, including full systems ownershipExperience with highly cosmetic products and working closely with Industrial DesignExperience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancingExperience leading technical projects and directing development activitiesExperience defining product-level mechanical architecturesPublic Compensation:
$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
