As a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at Amazon Leo, you will lead a team directly responsible for building, testing, qualifying and producing next generation spacecraft. You will utilize innovative solutions and technology to solve difficult manufacturing and engineering problems on a daily basis, at both a systems and specialized level. You will be a critical lynchpin between the production, development, tooling, supply chain and quality teams, and lead production on the assembly line as well as new production introduction.
You will provide vital manufacturability input to the design engineering teams for both new and existing hardware. Finally, you will be responsible for standing up new processes, equipment, and assembly lines to support Amazon Leo's build ramp, making data‑driven decisions at each step in the process.
- Use knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating, and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines (Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Tooling, Assembly, and Test) to guide the team and arrive at a viable approach for an optical system.
- Drive manufacturing processes improvements by reading test results and implementing SPC.
- Interface with facilities personnel in site development and all utility requirements definition.
- AIT takt time & cost optimization planning.
- Manage team of manufacturing engineers across multiple shifts, with expectation that this role will be flexible in attendance and able to support on a reoccurring basis on a shift from 4 pm to midnight, including weekend days.

A day in the lifeThis role will require a thorough understanding of precision manufacturing processes. You will answer for manufacturing engineers supporting the production environment. This is a leadership role for a highly collaborative individual that combines superb technical and analytical capabilities to optimizing optic assembly procedures for production and meeting cross discipline requirements.

BasicQualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing/Optical/Electrical) or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in Cleanroom operation and techniques.
- 3+ years of experience managing engineers.
- 5+ years of experience in the production of complex opto‑mechanical systems used in industrial, automotive, defense, space or medical applications.
- 5+ years of Engineering Manufacturing manager experience.
- Master or Ph.D in Electrical, Electronics or Optical field.
