Manager, Core Tax Services - Corporate Tax/ASC 740
This role focuses on advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating alternative actions to reduce tax burden and compliance costs, identifying compliant methods, and serving as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 tax issues.
Job SummaryThe Core Tax Services ("CTS") Manager – ASC
740 applies knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognizes and communicates potential risks and changes in tax policy.
- Tax Compliance
- Ensure clients comply with all authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and ensure self and client service teams comply with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").
- Conduct top‑level review of T/R and resolve all tax issues with the client; involve specialists where appropriate.
- Communicate issues identified in tax accrual review with Assurance clients.
- Plan and review the tax process and procedures, including budgeting and staffing, monitoring engagement process and time versus budget, timely billing and collecting A/R.
- Manage client relationships and expectations in accordance with the project.
- Provide timely advice to clients.
- Research
- Identify when research is needed, frame issues concisely, and report analysis.
- Define complex research issues for the engagement team and provide research methodology.
- Train managers/staff on research skills and ASC 740 problem framing.
- Involve firm specialists as appropriate.
- ASC 740 (FAS 109/FIN 48) Tax Accruals
- Apply Firm policies, standards, and BDO TQM regarding ASC 740.
- Explain income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to clients; discuss ASC 740 complexities.
- Coordinate with Assurance on timely accrual review planning.
- Review tax provisions and work papers; manage Specialized Tax Services (STS) as needed.
- Tax Consulting
- Develop, recommend, and implement methods to reduce clients’ current and future taxes.
- Leverage CTS and STS consulting specialties.
- Implement work plans including STS assistance.
- Serve as technical resource, ensure compliance with WTA policy, provide exam support, and delegate projects.
- Tax Specialization
- Deep understanding of tax issues across various areas.
- Organize internal CPE training; mentor on ASC 740.
- Strategy Development
- Introduce and develop new or improved ideas to benefit clients and the firm.
- Suggest process improvements; lead marketing campaigns if applicable.
- Present complex strategies to clients and partners; collaborate with National Tax and STS.
- Other duties as required.
- Supervise Associates and Senior Associates on all projects.
- Review work prepared, provide comments.
- Train on current software tools.
- Act as Career Advisor.
- Schedule and manage workload.
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (required).
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).

- Five (5) or more years of prior experience (required).
- Experience managing ASC 740 computations for private and public clients (required).
- Supervisory experience (required).
- Multinational client experience (preferred).
- CPA, Attorney (U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) (or equivalent) – required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat (required).
- Tax research databases such as BNA and RIA; proficiency in compliance process software including Go File Room , GoSystem
RS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation, and standard tax work papers (preferred).
