About

the Position

The Vice President, Finance & Accounting (Controller) provides strategic leadership and hands‑on operational oversight for the Council’s finance and accounting functions. Serving as the organization’s senior internal financial leader, this role is accountable for the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all accounting operations, financial reporting, audits, grant compliance, and internal controls. This is an actively engaged leadership role that combines deep technical accounting expertise with enterprise‑wide responsibility, including direct oversight of core accounting processes and GAAP‑compliant reporting.

This is a regular, full‑time exempt role with a starting pay range of $106,838 to $120,193 per year. Residency in Washington State, preferably within our Council‑region of Western Washington, is required. This position is classified as remote; however, successful candidates must be willing and able to come into a GSWW office or alternative work location as necessary or when requested.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides direct leadership, supervision, and support to the Finance and Accounting team, including performance management, coaching, professional development, and delegation of responsibilities in alignment with organizational goals and policies.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to support the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for positions within their assigned team, ensuring alignment with organizational staffing needs and equity practices.
  • Oversees and actively manages the monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes, ensuring financial statements are accurate, timely, and prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Reviews and approves month‑end journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules; ensures completeness, accuracy, and consistent application of accounting standards.
  • Prepares monthly and year‑end financial statements and related financial reports for final review by the Chief Executive Officer.
