Work Schedule

Hours:

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be required during month-end or year-end close periods. Position is exempt from FLSA.

Work Location

The Chinook Building, 401 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98104.

Remote and Onsite Work

The Finance team works in a hybrid model with both office and telecommuting days. The ratio of remote to onsite work depends on business needs and may change. Employees must reside in Washington state and be within reasonable distance to the worksite. The selected candidate will receive a County-issued laptop and must maintain a reliable home workspace.

Job Duties
  • Work with programs and division finance teams to translate compliance expectations into fiscal transactions.
  • Assist the General Ledger/Accounts Payable unit in executing all fiscal adjustments and audit requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of oversight systems, processes, and tools.
  • Facilitate preparations for external monitoring visits, reviews, audits, and evaluations and participate as appropriate.
  • Assist with year-end and month-end close processes, taking the lead in reconciling balance accounts.
  • Prepare written and oral responses to inquiries from finance staff, division managers, and supervisors.
  • Plan, organize, and participate in financial and compliance audit assignments to assure compliance and dependability of financial records.
  • Provide proficient contribution in allocating Direct Admin Cost and Overhead Cost Allocations.
  • Conduct and/or review revenue allocations.
  • Maintain records in compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Research current, new, and proposed regulatory requirements to determine impact on the department.
  • Provide ongoing support to program finance teams by reconciling ledgers, identifying allowable and unallowable charges in the county’s financial system for various projects.
  • Research laws and regulations; review policies and procedures for compliance with state and federal regulations, county code, ordinances, GAAP and GAAS and make recommendations to management on accounting treatments.
  • Coordinate and complement the Grants and Compliance Management team’s effort to respond to requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Compile information for completion of reporting, including reports for management, funders, and regulators or auditors.
  • Perform analysis, identify trends, and follow up on opportunities for enhancement as needed.
  • Participate and/or provide training and lead various team and committee meetings, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
  • At least 5-8 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, audit, or grant/contract monitoring.
  • Experience performing complex accounting tasks and audit engagements, particularly in cost accounting in a Government or Nonprofit environment.
  • Experience with cost and revenue allocations.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and GASB rules and proclamations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced expertise in Excel.
  • Ability to understand funding sources, policies, and program requirements.
  • Experience with cost accounting as it pertains to 2 CFR 200.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with diverse audiences.
