Do you excel at working with people and have strong communication skills? The Washington State Gambling Commission is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Licensing Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will help maintain the integrity and compliance of gambling operations by reviewing and managing licensing applications and renewals.

The position is based at our Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA and may offer eligibility for teleworking or in-office hybrid schedule after initial training period. During initial training period, workdays will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Candidates should reside within a reasonable commutable distance to the assigned work location at our Lacey Headquarters.

In this role, you will independently review and decide on gambling license applications for individuals and organizations, supporting the agency’s licensing functions with your expertise.
Here is some of what you will be doing:- Review, evaluate, and process gambling license applications and renewals in alignment with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct comprehensive background checks and due diligence on applicants to ensure regulatory compliance and suitability.
- Communicate with applicants to request required documentation and provide guidance throughout the licensing process.
- Collaborate with Tribal Gaming Agencies regarding technical aspects of licensing employees at Tribal facilities.
- Develop, deliver, and facilitate presentations, training sessions, and briefings as needed.
- Perform general office duties, including answering the agency's main phone line, greeting customers, and managing mail distribution.
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Two years of experience working in an office environment processing applications, licenses, or certifications, or performing other office functions.
Two years of college level courses may substitute year for year for work experience.
- Make fair, consistent decisions after considering all relevant factors. Address difficult situations constructively to prevent conflict and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders.
- Apply laws, policies, and procedures for licensing; solve complex licensing issues; maintain good public relations; and coordinate multiple projects efficiently.
- Work independently, adhere to guidelines, manage tasks and resources efficiently, and seek opportunities for growth.
- Perform basic math functions: add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Work successfully in a team environment.
- Accept and process cash payments.
- Verify information and resolve issues using databases, internet sources, licensing files, and other resources.
- Become proficient in our agency databases and MyAccount.
- Maintain professionalism when providing support to stakeholders via telephone.
