Transportation Policy Lead Advisor – King County, WA
OverviewKing County is launching an ambitious effort to ensure government delivers high‑quality, efficient and equitable services through the King County Delivers plan. The Transportation Policy Lead will serve as the subject‑matter expert in Transportation, guiding policy direction for the Executive’s portfolio and working closely with county departments to align policy priorities across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee development and implementation of the Executive’s policy priorities at federal, state, and local levels.
- Partner with the Director of Policy and Innovation, other policy leads, and members of the Executive’s Office to integrate policy into the broader organizational strategy and cross‑functional initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, policymakers, government officials, and regulatory bodies to support the government relations team.
- Inform public sector agencies and partners about critical legislation, develop strategies, coordinate participation, prepare testimony, and provide legislative updates.
- Collaborate with public sector partners, community and subject‑matter experts to develop policy positions that advance the interests of the Executive.
- Out in the region, building relationships with those served and partnering stakeholders.
- In the office a minimum of 3 days a week.
- Be punctual, respectful of others’ time, and responsive when needed.
- Adopt a “Yes, and” mindset for problem solving.
- Bring urgency and focus; meetings will have written agendas, clear owners and next steps.
- Serve with integrity.

- 5+ years of policy, advocacy or government affairs experience.
- Proven record of translating policy into measurable results.

- Exceptional analytical, communication, writing, and relationship‑building skills.
- Strategic and analytical, using data to inform decisions.
- Equity‑centered, embedding fairness, inclusion, and community impact into policy work.
- Collaborative, building strong partnerships across departments.
- Results‑oriented, driving measurable outcomes and continuous improvement.
