Position: Community Corrections Officer 3 (CCO3) - Reentry Longview

Overview

Department of Corrections – Community Corrections Officer 3 – Longview Reentry Center, Tacoma, WA. Full‑time position. Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Primary mission: improve public safety by supporting effective supervision and accountability of reentry center residents.

This recruitment is open to current WA State DOC employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise adults placed in partial confinement in accordance with Washington State law and DOC policy.
  • Review arriving resident information to determine documentation and initial programming needs.
  • Conduct PREA screening within 72 hours of arrival; document in OMNI and tracking sheet.
  • Complete intake with residents to orient them to reentry center rules and processes.
  • Administer risk, needs, and substance abuse assessments.
  • Make decisions concerning resident financial obligations, sanctions, living arrangements, and treatment and education referrals.
  • Navigate and maintain multiple electronic and hardcopy resident files; review and update resident plans and programming needs.
  • Conduct searches of residents, their residences, motor vehicles, and other collateral locations.
  • Complete resident collateral contacts (e.g., field visits) as required by policy.
  • Engage residents to work toward positive change using Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions; complete Behavior Observation Entries.
  • Make referrals to intervention programs based on risk‑needs assessment and review progress reports.
  • Provide counseling and information on community resources.
  • Enforce supervision/placement conditions and law; transport residents to incarceration facilities or designated areas.
  • Collect, document, process, and maintain evidence, ensuring proper chain of custody.
  • Collect, test, evaluate, and document resident urine samples; conduct and document breathalyzer tests.
  • Issue and serve warrants; arrest residents at the center, home, employment sites, or other collateral locations for supervision or law violations.
  • Investigate and respond to infractions, violations, and new law violations; document findings and write reports.
  • Write detailed reports on violations; testify during court hearings.
  • Partner with law‑enforcement agencies on an as‑needed basis.
  • Attend and complete mandatory training and meetings.
  • Act as reentry center manager designee when authorized in accordance with policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Community Corrections Officer within the Washington State Department of Corrections.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (CHEA, U.S. Department of Education, or foreign equivalent) PLUS three (3) years of professional experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social services, law enforcement, or a closely related field, with at least three of the following:
    • Making field visits
    • Preparing written correspondence, reports, or documents
    • Assessing cases and making recommendations
    • Referring people to appropriate resources
    • Presenting cases in court or hearings
  • OR a qualified combination of experience and education totaling seven (7) years.
  • NOTE: a master’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology, or a related field substitutes for five (5) years of experience; an associate’s degree substitutes for two (2) years.
  • Staff not qualifying for legacy arming status are required to be armed and must maintain firearm qualification and complete ongoing training.
