Position: Substance Use Disorder Professional PS4 (PN62)- CRCC

Overview

Substance Use Disorder Professional, Program Specialist 4- SARU - Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC), Connell, WA. The Department of Corrections is seeking a licensed SUDP Program Specialist 4- SARU for the CRCC. The Substance Abuse Recovery Unit (SARU) implements evidence-based practices and provides operational support to facilitate participation in programs designed to decrease recidivism and enhance staff, incarcerated individuals, and public safety.

The Department collaborates with criminal justice partners to conduct appropriate substance use disorder assessments and treatment, addressing risks and needs across the continuum in the least restrictive setting to protect staff and incarcerated individuals and the public. This position will work as a licensed Substance Use Disorder Treatment Counselor, providing assessments (DOC 14-040), Level 3.3 SUD Treatment services per ASAM Criteria, DSM-5, and WACs.

It requires specialized training, DOH certification, and client case management including treatment records in compliance with WACs and Federal Confidentiality laws (42 CFR Part
2).

This is an expert-level position within the SARU treatment program, advising the SARU Program Administrator, SARU Correctional Program Manager, SARU Corrections Specialist 3, and executive leadership on SUD assessment and treatment. The TC Specialist functions under limited supervision with independent judgment, working in multi-dimensional assessment and treatment dynamics. The position interacts with external and internal stakeholders on treatment progress and compliance on behalf of SARU.

Duties

Provide Level 3.3 Evidenced-Based SUD Therapeutic Community (TC) treatment to incarcerated individuals per WAC, DOC Policy, and ASAM Criteria. Independently conduct DSM-5 SUD Assessments using DOC 14-040.

Provide treatment services in modalities including 2.1 Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Level 2.5 Intensive Day Treatment (IDT).

  • Facilitate education and process groups, case management, individual counseling, treatment plan development and maintenance, evaluate treatment effectiveness and client outcomes (discharge summaries), maintain expert-level records, participate in multidisciplinary teams, present in clinical staffing, and maintain a caseload.
  • Utilize critical thinking and subject-matter expertise to deliver evidence-based treatment services.

Maintain fidelity to ASAM Criteria for continued stay reviews, individual service plan reviews, and discharge planning/writing. Ensure chronological notes meet CFR 42 Part 2 and Policy 580.000 criteria. Update clinical notes per WAC . Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required: Ability to work independently and within a team, exercise good judgement, and promote positive working relationships with incarcerated individuals, staff, and stakeholders. Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (initial and continuous licensure in Washington State).

Preferred/Desired: Associates Degree in Social Service or Criminal Justice from an accredited college or foreign equivalent;
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college; professional experience with evidence-based treatment delivery; experience using OMNI, SharePoint, OnBase, and other DOC tracking systems; corrections environment experience.
