Northwest Eyes is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician Trainer to shape the next generation of clinical talent. This unique opportunity combines technical expertise with leadership, mentorship, and the satisfaction of advancing quality patient care.
What You’ll Do- Lead structured training programs for new and experienced technicians, ensuring core competencies are met within 90 days
- Deliver advanced training modules such as Tech T-levels and specialized diagnostic testing
- Provide one‑on‑one coaching to build skill mastery and support career advancement
- Track and document training progress, reporting outcomes to leadership
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, MIPS, and internal policies
- Review documentation accuracy, safety practices, and patient interaction standards
- Support proper handling and disposal of medical information
- Collaborate with leadership to improve workflows, training processes, and technician engagement
- Assist with clinical research activities, including coordinating studies, scheduling participants, managing documentation, and ensuring GCP compliance
- Act as a liaison between providers, research teams, and participants
- Identify opportunities to enhance patient flow, efficiency, and quality of care
- Adapt to evolving clinic needs with flexibility
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, Worth 4‑Dot, Hirschberg, EOM testing
Anterior & Posterior Segment DiagnosticsSlit lamp exam, pachymetry, Van Herick technique, OCT, fundus photography
Refraction & OpticsAutorefraction, retinoscopy, and phoropter use
Intraocular Pressure TestingApplanation, iCare, Tonopen
Visual FieldsHumphrey Visual Field testing with basic interpretation
Patient Preparation & EducationMedical history taking, dilation, medication instillation, and patient instruction
Surgical SupportBiometry (IOL Master/Lenstar), A‑scans, keratometry, cataract evaluation workups
Requirements What You Bring- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic diagnostics, workflows, and clinical best practices
- Understanding of healthcare compliance standards (HIPAA, MIPS)
- Experience with clinical research coordination (GCP certification a plus)
- Ability to train, mentor, and engage staff across diverse learning styles
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
- High attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- COA or COT certification preferred
- Minimum 3 years of ophthalmic technician experience, including training or supervisory responsibilities
- Experience in compliance oversight or clinical research coordination preferred
- Must maintain required licensure, certifications, and training
