Overview

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers.

Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

An Advanced Practice Provider Fellow is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who spends a year gaining in-depth oncology training/education and provides evaluation and medical management to patients at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and under the supervision of an attending physician.

To apply you must be a student or graduate of an accredited PA or NP program and have graduated at least three months prior to the program start date (November 2, 2026). If you are a student, this allows time to complete exams, licensure and credentialing. To qualify, you must:

• Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university (a clinical or health‑related bachelor’s degree is preferred)
• If you are a PA:
  Have passed or be eligible to take the NCCPA examination
• If you are an adult, FNP or acute care NP:
  Have passed or be eligible to take the AANP or ANCC certification examination
• Obtain Washington state licensure before the November 2, 2026 program start date

Your application packet should include:

• Personal statement of interest including a clear indication of why you are applying to this oncology fellowship and which area of focus you would like to pursue.
• Curriculum Vitae
• Unofficial transcripts from PA or NP program
• Two reference letters from clinical peer or supervisor, only
• If less than 2 years of NP/PA experience, one of the letters is required from your Program Director.

• Obtain comprehensive exposure to Hematology‑Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant.
• Gain an understanding of the core principles of oncology care and management of treatment toxicities.
• Understand the core objectives of research and the importance and relevance of all phases of clinical trials.
• Gain clinical experiences through the entire spectrum of oncology care, from prevention to survivorship and end‑of‑life.
• Demonstrate the importance of inter‑professional collaboration along the continuum of care.

• Must be a current student or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
• Washington state & DEA licensure required.
• Excellent communication and clinical skills necessary to ensure optimum patient care outcomes in a complex care environment.
• Ability to effectively and compassionately communicate information about disease processes, prognosis, trajectory and care options as defined by the primary oncology team; clarify patient and family goals and preferences for care; discuss palliative and end‑of‑life treatment options; and discussion and management of treatment (both oncology and…
