Job Summary and Scope of Responsibilities:
The pharmacy technician apprentice will attend 264 hours of classroom and lab sessions and complete 2,000 hours of work experience with the goal of passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification exam and becoming a licensed pharmacy technician in WA state. The Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, will learn how to accurately and timely fill patient’s prescriptions and will work in partnership and joint accountability with other team members to achieve Neighbor care Health’s Mission, Guiding Principles and Goals.

July 12, 2023 - 6-month Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program will be at North Seattle College
- Will need to enroll in the Pharmacy Technician program at North Seattle College
- Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program tuition will be paid in-lieu of a sign-on bonus
- Clinicals will be completed at our Meridian Clinic Pharmacy or at our 45th Street Clinic Pharmacy
- The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam fee - Paid by Neighbor care Health
- The Pharmacy Assistant / Technician License - Paid by Neighbor care Health
- The position is benefit eligible
- Offer is contingent upon a background check, professional references, verification of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States, meeting certain immunizations/vaccine requirements and proof of COVID-19 vaccination
- Must be able to commit to a 2-year employment agreement with Neighbor care Health after the Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program is completed
Primary Responsibilities:
- Attend 264 hours of classroom and lab sessions for pharmacy technician apprenticeship training
- Complete 2000 hours of apprenticeship work experience in the pharmacy
- Perform tasks under pharmacist’s supervision such as obtaining individual pre-packaged, labeled medications for prescriptions and stock bottles for prescription filling.
- Count and pour from stock bottles for individual prescriptions.
- Transcribe prescription information into computer.
- Review patient profile to retrieve specific information.
- Handle cash drawer; responsible for daily deposits and reconciliation.
- Place, receive, unpack and store drug orders.
- File and retrieve pharmacy records.
- Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
- Hand out refills and receive payments from patients.
- Reconstitute original form of medication previously altered for preservation and storage by adding specific quantities of distilled water requiring no calculation-accuracy checked and initialed by a pharmacist.
- Answers non-pharmacist’s related phone calls to/from patients requesting refill of a prescription.
- Assist in the maintenance of clinic dispensary.
- Process insurance claims.
- Able to interpret written prescriptions, perform pharmacy calculations, and maintain efficiency and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal and people skills; and be a team player who promotes a positive team environment.
- Act as a patient advocate by ensuring that the patient’s prescribed drug therapy is followed as prescribed.
- Coordinate patients’ prescribed pharmacy care with their healthcare providers to ensure that drug therapy is successful.
- Report all drug adverse events to pharmacist.
- Perform all tasks in a safe manner that is consistent with corporate policies as well as state and federal laws.
- Triage phone calls to appropriate department.
- Complete and pass the pharmacy technician certification exam toward the end of the 6-month apprenticeship program.
