About the Role

The Inner Wellbeing & Spirituality Manager serves as a caring and grounding presence within Horizon House, providing leadership and direction for the inner wellbeing and spirituality function. This role is responsible for designing, managing, and delivering a comprehensive spiritual and emotional care program that supports residents, their loved ones, and, as appropriate, staff.

This position fosters inclusive spiritual wellbeing across diverse faith traditions and for those with no faith belief or affiliation, while serving as a key liaison to the broader religious and spiritual community.

What You'll Do
  • Promote spiritual and inner wellbeing by ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive, inclusive program of spiritual and emotional care to residents, their loved ones and staff, honoring all faith and no faith traditions.
  • Provide direct inner wellbeing and spiritual care through individual and group engagement, serving as a supportive companion, listener, and facilitator.
  • Ensure that all requests for spiritual care or emotional support, including those involving grief, existential distress, or crisis, are acknowledged are responded to promptly and compassionately.
  • Ensure the availability of appropriate worship and observance opportunities, including major holy days and religious observances (e.g., Christian, Jewish, and Muslim traditions), based on resident needs and requests.
  • Ensure that ritual, sacramental, and end-of-life spiritual needs are respectfully identified, coordinated, and fulfilled.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain the Inner Wellbeing & Spirituality calendar, including programs facilitated by the team or by a sponsored entity.
  • Facilitate small groups to foster meaningful connection, thoughtful communication, trust, reflection, emotional expression, and mutual support among participants.
  • Coordinate community memorial services and provide guidance and support for the planning of individual resident memorials, as requested.
  • Supervise and facilitate the work of those delivering spiritual care, including employees of external institutions and volunteers.
  • Support clergy, pastoral visitors, and volunteers from the outside religious community, including those assigned by their denomination to serve at Horizon House.
  • Represent Horizon House in relationships with the local United Church of Christ congregations, the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Church of Christ, and The First Hill Clergy Group.
  • Serve as an active participant in interdisciplinary care teams and other interdisciplinary meetings, as requested.
  • Oversee the use, care, and maintenance of the Inner Wellbeing & Spirituality spaces (e.g., chapel, prayer/meditation room, display areas), ensuring they remain welcoming, inclusive, and respectful.
  • Develop and maintain effective administrative and operational procedures for the team in accordance with institutional policies, including the development, tracking, and reporting of objectives and key results.
  • Ensure recordkeeping and communication practices meet institutional standards and comply with HIPAA regulations, where applicable.
  • Provide overall supervision and leadership for the Inner Wellbeing & Spirituality function, including direct supervision of staff, recruitment and support of volunteers, and coordination with external clergy, pastoral visitors, and faith community partners to ensure consistent, high-quality spiritual and emotional care delivery.
  • Develop and manage the Inner Wellbeing & Spirituality budget in consultation with the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned by management.
What You Bring
  • Completion of at least four quarters of Clinical Pastoral Education, certification with the Association of Pastoral Chaplains (APC) or Spiritual Care Association (SCA) and be an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ;
