Overview
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. With a global leadership record in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, the Center operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services.

- Perform molecular biology techniques including isolation of RNA/DNA from human lymphocytes, high density multiplex PCR, RT-qPCR, RNA-Seq, RT-PCR amplification for targeted amplicon sequencing of B cell receptor genes, library preparation for Illumina sequencing, antibody cloning and purification, and monoclonal antibody production by transient transfection.
- Perform tissue culture techniques such as maintenance of cell lines, transduction of feeder cells with retroviral and lentiviral vectors, virus neutralizations, cytotoxicity assays, and in vitro cell manipulations including peptide stimulations and co-cultures.
- Isolate RNA and DNA from whole blood, PBMC and tissue; prepare libraries and indexing for Illumina sequencing platform.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and perform basic QC.
- Optimize new assays and specimen processing methods as required.
- Prepare stocks of HIV pseudoviruses for downstream neutralization assays.
- Maintain reagents, stocks, and cultures necessary for laboratory work.
- Collect and analyze data independently.
- Draft, edit, and revise SOPs to support new experimental designs and laboratory operations.
- Conduct literature reviews and assist in preparing data for oral and written presentations.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 2 years of laboratory experience outside of school coursework.
- Experience in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, digital droplet PCR, NGS library preparation, aseptic tissue culture, bacterial cloning, protein expression, neutralization assays, and ELISAs.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organization, and self‑motivation with efficient time management.
- Scientific curiosity, ability to take instruction and correct direction, strong teamwork skills.
- Willingness to take initiative, learn new laboratory skills, and communicate effectively with the research team.
- Strong data collection, record‑keeping, and laboratory documentation skills.
- Computer literacy, including statistical analysis and data presentation.
- Willingness to work with biohazardous/infectious agents (including HIV‑1) under controlled conditions and flexibility for evenings and weekends.
The hourly pay range for this position is from $27.01 to $38.45, based on experience and qualifications. This position is not eligible for H‑1B sponsorship.
