The Lead Employee Relations Specialist leads and manages investigations into employee complaints, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations, ensuring all processes are conducted fairly, confidentially, and in compliance with employment laws and banking regulations. This role involves gathering and analyzing evidence, documenting findings, and partnering with HR leadership and Legal to recommend appropriate actions. The Specialist also supports managers in addressing performance issues, provides training on HR policies and conflict resolution, and contributes to the development and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.

Additionally, they monitor trends in employee relations, promote proactive solutions, and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, neutrality, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead investigations into employee concerns, including allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, and policy violations.
  • Conduct thorough interviews, collect relevant documentation, and evaluate evidence to reach well-supported conclusions.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and compliant documentation of investigation steps, findings, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership and Legal to determine appropriate actions and next steps based on investigative outcomes.
  • Ensure all investigations align with internal policies, employment laws, and applicable banking regulations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, impartiality, and professionalism throughout the investigative process.
  • Monitor trends in employee relations activities and help develop proactive strategies to address recurring issues.
  • Support workplace conduct and compliance initiatives, including training and awareness programs.
  • Assist in creating, revising, and communicating HR policies, employee handbooks, counseling matrices, and related procedures.
  • Promote consistent and equitable application of policies across the organization.
  • Partner with managers to address performance concerns, including assisting with performance improvement plans and providing coaching.
  • Deliver training to managers on HR policies, conflict resolution, communication best practices, and employee relations processes.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, particularly those related to employee relations and banking.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential records of employee relations matters in accordance with legal and organizational standards.
  • Adhere to bank policies and federal regulatory requirements, including the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and OFAC regulations.
  • Avoid actual or perceived conflicts of interest and safeguard employee and client confidentiality at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, or a related field
  • Certification in HR or Investigations (SHRM-CP, PHR, AWI) strongly preferred
  • 5 years or more of experience in HR investigations, employee relations, or compliance required
  • Solid understanding of employment law and workplace investigation practices.
  • Experience in financial services or a regulated industry preferred.
  • Strong communication, interviewing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong conflict resolution and mediation skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
