Site Reliability Engineer, Network and Traffic - USDS

Responsibilities

• Design, build, operate and optimize Tik Tok network, not limited to backbone, public cloud, and Edge/CDN.
• Design, manage, operate and contribute to the development of our Layer7 Load Balancer, CDN origin and DNS.
• Troubleshoot network and / or traffic issues in partnership with our Data Center Partners.
• Work with cross-functional teams including but not limited to compute, storage, database, application teams to drive the innovation and evolution of Byte Dance network.
• Work with external vendors and ISPs for device and carrier selection, perform testing and verification.
• Participate in the global on‑call rotation to support production traffic and networking issues.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, RSVP, DHCP, BGP, OSPF/IS‑IS and MPLS related technologies.
• Good understanding of network monitoring protocols and tools, such as SNMP, sFlow/netflow, Telemetry.
• Hands on experience with one or more of the following:
  Load Balancers, DNS, CDN origin, Datacenter networking.
• Familiar with data center network architecture, such as CLOS.
• Self‑motivated, good communication, written skills and team player.
• Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related field, or experience of three or more years in a related field.
• Preferred:
  Significant experience configuring and optimizing Nginx; in‑depth knowledge of network protocols and implementation in hyper‑scale data center networks; in‑depth knowledge of public cloud architecture, such as AWS, GCP, Azure, Ali Cloud, OCI, etc.; good understanding of IPv6 and IPv4‑IPv6 co‑existence technologies; programming/scripting in Python, Go or other languages.
