Assistant Professor — Computing & Software Systems (Multiple)
The Computing & Software Systems Department of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) invites applications for multiple tenure track positions at the rank of assistant professor. The successful candidates will join our faculty on a full-time (100% FTE) basis for a nine-month academic year appointment beginning September 16, 2026.
The base salary range for this position will be $13,727-$14,449 per month during the nine-month academic year ($123,543-$130,041 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Candidates will be considered across a wide range of research and teaching interests, including but not limited to: cybersecurity, software engineering, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, databases, embedded systems, and Internet of Things. Successful candidates will be expected to develop externally sponsored research programs, supervise graduate students, engage in excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and support and enhance learning for students from diverse backgrounds.
CSS is among the largest computer science departments in the Pacific Northwest. We currently offer a BS in Computer Science and Software Engineering and a BA in Applied Computing; we also collaborate in offering a BS in Computer Engineering (jointly run with Electrical Engineering in the Department of Engineering & Mathematics). At the graduate level, we offer master's degrees in computer science and software engineering and Cybersecurity Engineering, and a graduate certificate in Software Design and Development.
We also offer several minors and degree options in computer science, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. All our curricula are broadly based in computer science and software engineering. Total enrollment is 700 FTE undergraduate students and 200 FTE graduate students.
The 27 full-time CSS faculty members are committed to excellence in research and teaching in a number of areas, including: artificial intelligence, augmented reality, bioinformatics, computational biology, computational neuroscience, computer graphics, computer science education, computer vision, cybersecurity, data mining, high-performance computing, human factors in computing, Internet of Things, parallel and distributed computing, social computing, software engineering, and wireless networks. In the past few years, members of the CSS faculty have been successful in earning grants from NSF, NSA, DHS, and other agencies, foundations, as well as in collaboration with local IT companies including Microsoft, T-MOBILE, and Amazon.
