GENERALSUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE
We are looking for an experienced Webmaster to join our Communications team. If you love managing and optimizing Word Press websites, this role is for you. This role is responsible for managing and executing the archdiocesan website strategy based on specific goals and objectives. This team player must have excellent communication skills and excel at managing Word Press websites, including front‑end and back‑end technical expertise, plugin and theme management, tools and components experience, and experience with training, supporting and overseeing other website editors.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working with Word Press in a cloud‑hosted environment (e.g., Azure), possess strong troubleshooting skills, and be comfortable managing budget, vendors and third‑party support. Familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics, and experience with spreadsheets and dashboards to inform strategy is essential.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES- Manage the execution of the web strategy of the Archdiocese of Seattle website (archseattle.org).
- Provide oversight and support of the Northwest Catholic Website (NW Catholic.org).
- Serve as subject matter expert for the archdiocesan website.
- Create and update web pages and posts as necessary.
- Review and approve content updates submitted by editors and ensure they adhere to archdiocesan standards, style guide and policies, using the Word Press CMS and Beaver Builder page builder.
- Oversee theme customization, CSS styling and plugin configuration.
- Manage the presentation and archiving of digital media assets (images, video, documents) and maintain process documentation.
- Manage the creation, operation and export/distribution of the results of web‑based form submissions.
- Ensure that content is appropriately represented in search engines through SEO.
- Support researching, vetting and testing any new plugins, solutions or technical tools and services.
- Platform Management (Word Press‑specific).
- Ensure website hosting and delivery systems (e.g., Azure) meet performance scalability and security requirements.
- Oversee plugin updates, theme updates, and Word Press core updates, testing changes in staging environments.
- Monitor website health using Word Press tools and third‑party services.
- Troubleshoot website issues and coordinate with IT and vendors as needed.
- Monitor RSS feeds and syndication tools within Word Press.
- Optimize plugin experience.
- Use Revisions Pro to manage editorial workflows and maintain version control of content updates.
- Manage the event calendar plugin on the website, fielding all event submissions and proactively seek out new events to add.
- Support multilingual content creation and translation workflows using WPML (Word Press Multilingual Plugin) and collaborate with the translation specialist.
- Stakeholder collaboration.
- Train and support departmental editors in using Word Press effectively.
- Coordinate with third‑party developers and support teams.
- Assist parish staff with updates to the online directory or events calendar.
- Liaise with the Northwest Catholic team to ensure consistency and alignment across platforms.
- Analytics - Develop and manage robust analytics reporting using tools including Google Analytics to uncover insights that will help shape content strategy and user experience.
- Budgeting – Maintain budget tracking for website services, plugins and developmental costs.
