In this pivotal role, you will lead the unified organization responsible for both our Cloud Infrastructure backbone and the Developer Experience (DX) built upon it. You will drive a high‑stakes platform transformation, evolving legacy environments into a modern, self‑service Internal Developer Platform (IDP) that reduces cognitive load for thousands of Boeing engineers.
Position Responsibilities- Drive the strategic shift from “Ticket‑Ops” to an API‑first, self‑service reality, modernizing legacy systems and defining clear sun setting paths for deprecated infrastructure
- Define and deliver a unified platform roadmap that treats internal developers as customers, using feedback loops and user research to build tools they want to use
- Architect and maintain “paved roads”, highly automated, opinionated workflows that simplify the journey from code to production while maintaining security and compliance
- Own the environment lifecycle across multiple CSPs (AWS, Azure, GCP), driving the adoption of Git Ops, Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC), and declarative automation
- Deliver a centralized Developer Portal (e.g., Backstage) to provide a “single pane of glass” for Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), documentation, and cloud resources
- Lead engineering teams in implementing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, utilizing error budgets and blame‑free post‑mortems to balance velocity with stability
- Integrate security (SAST/DAST) and compliance guardrails directly into automation so that the secure way is always the easiest way for developers
- Foster a culture of contribution where engineers across Boeing can contribute to the platform’s codebase, breaking down silos and accelerating innovation
- Measure performance through DORA metrics (Deployment Frequency, Lead Time, Mean Time to Recover) and Developer Net Promoter Score (NPS) to ensure the platform is increasing enterprise velocity
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- 10+ years of experience leading cross‑functional engineering teams through large‑scale technical transformations
- 10+ years of experience in Cloud Platform Engineering, Dev Ops, or Software Engineering leadership
- 8+ years of experience with Cloud Service Providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- 5+ years of experience defining and implementing Platform‑as‑a‑Product or Developer Experience (DX) initiatives
- Experience managing the transition from legacy, on‑prem, and/or monolithic systems to modern, cloud‑native architecture
- Experience implementing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Dev Sec Ops frameworks at an enterprise scale
- Master’s or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience building or implementing Internal Developer Portals (e.g., Backstage.io)
- Experience with Team Topologies and strategies to reduce developer cognitive load
- Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and Git Ops delivery models (e.g., ArgoCD)
- Experience influencing senior executives and gaining buy‑in for long‑term technical debt reduction and foundational investments
- Experience in leadership within the CNCF or Open Source communities
Summary pay range: $177,650 - $277,150
