Principal Recruiter at Motion RecruitmentOne of the top e-commerce powerhouse companies is looking for a Hardware/Embedded Security Engineer to join their Seattle, WA team! Our client is building a brand-new, highly specialized hardware security lab focused on assessing the security of next-generation consumer and satellite devices. This role supports hands-on hardware security assessments for emerging devices and third-party manufactured designs, ensuring privacy, compliance, and protection against real-world hardware attacks.
The engineer will work closely with silicon, firmware, manufacturing, and penetration testing teams to evaluate hardware designs, analyze chips and firmware, and identify security vulnerabilities early in the device lifecycle.
Contract Duration: 12-Month Contract with the opportunity for extension or conversion
Required Skills & Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of experience in hardware security, embedded systems security, firmware security, or device security
- Experience programming in C or C++ (for firmware review and security assessment)
- Strong knowledge of secure boot implementations, chain of trust, and root of trust concepts
- Solid understanding of hardware-based cryptography (RSA, AES, HMAC, key storage, entropy sources)
- Experience assessing firmware vulnerabilities and secure coding practices for low-level software
- Hands‑on experience with hardware security testing tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, soldering tools, chip inspection techniques)
- Experience working with semiconductors, SoCs, or processors, including reading data from chips
Daily Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on hardware security assessments of new and emerging consumer and satellite devices
- Analyze chips, firmware, and boot code to identify potential security weaknesses
- Review secure boot implementations and verify chain of trust and cryptographic controls
- Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, chip inspection tools) to test hardware behavior
- Assess semiconductor and SoC designs for hardware-level vulnerabilities
- Collaborate with silicon, firmware, manufacturing, and penetration testing teams to remediate risks
- Evaluate third-party manufactured hardware to ensure compliance with security and privacy requirements
